Almost all pop-up windows are intended to advertise something to you. The ads are generally caused by two different methods, which are described below.

Classic Pop-up Windows

The first method used is where the pop-up window is in a web page you visit; it is designed to automatically launch another page or "pop-up" window when you visit the site.

Classic Pop-up Solution 1: Install the Google toolbar and set it to block pop-up windows.

Classic Pop-up Solution 2: Download and install Pop-Up Stopper.

Classic Pop-up Solution 3: Install and use an Internet browser with built in pop-up blocking, examples below.
Mozilla: http://www.mozilla.com
My IE 2: http://www.myie2.com
Crazy Browser: http://www.crazybrowser.com

Classic Pop-up Solution 4: Install Popup Manager.

Adware Pop-up Programs

The second method by which pop-ups are caused is from software installed on your computer. Software that shows you advertisements is call "adware" and is often installed without your knowledge. Adware programs are usually included with software that you download off the Internet. These programs allow pop-ups from advertising companies to show up on your screen. Solutions for finding and removing adware programs are outlined below.

Adware Pop-up Solution 1: Download and install Pest Scan.
This program is developed by a professional provider of anti-spyware software and will remove many potentially harmful programs that may have been installed on your PC.

Adware Pop-up Solution 2:
  • Download and install Ad-aware. This program will search your computer for adware and remove it.

  • Install and run Spyware Blaster on your PC to help protect from having new adware programs installed.

Adware Pop-up Solution 3: Download and install Spybot Search and Destroy.
This program will search your computer for adware and remove it.

Note: These programs have not been created by TN.net, any support needed will have to be obtained by the software manufacturer. We can try to answer basic questions but may not be able to troubleshoot any software problems.

If you know of other programs that block pop-up windows that we should recommend to customers or would like to evaluate any of the methods above, please e-mail marketing@tn.net.
